Important! : saxo requires TLC

  1. #1
well, not the band TLC. but i have just bought a saxo 1.1 standard car (been wanting one for a while) and sadly my pug 1.9 went to the scrap heap in the sky. so sadly on a strict budget of £350 i bought a saxo. the previous lady owner has abused the poor thing and it does require some work other than that everything is working (bar the cig lighter and lights behind it, quick fix!)
anyway, i require a bit of advice. here are the issues..

    1) engine shakes at speeds above 50, i reckon gear box mountings have gone, when i mean shake, its like a tumble dryer. i dont think its tracking/balancing as the shake is not coming through the steering wheel more the whole car. either that the engine mounts have gone. is it a at home job, or does it require a mechanic to rape my wallet/fix vehicle?

    2) power steering, aint working, yet the fluid is full... electrical fault or has my servo gone?

    3) requires a dam good service. il happily pay for that as its always nice to see a stamp in the service book.

    4) accident damage. bonnet requires excessive force to close (bruce lee would be impressed) took off that annoying spring at the top of the clip, cant understand why its not closing properly as the bonnet has not been adjusted back or forced back by the accident, so dont know what to do.

also, thinking about have a mess with it. new paint, vtr engine in there. never done it to a car before so might aswell. need advice doing it, what to do or where i can source decent parts from.

any help is more than appreciated! thanks all!

sorry folks! its a brake relay not a steering fluid pump, apologies got it wrong

    1. sounds like it needs the wheels balancing, if the steering wheel isnt shaking but the car is chances are its the rear wheels.
    2. They have an electric power steering pump front of the bay, passenger side low down. Check the fuse, check all connectors, if not, pumps gone. Cheap from scrap yard.
    3. If you pay a dealer to service it for the sake of a stamp on a £350 saxo your mad. All in, oil, filter, air filter and plugs its less than £30 to do it yourself. Just write the date, milage, what you did and sign it in the book yourself.
    4. man up and slam it. If it latches closed and wont blow up it will be fine. Its a £350 saxo. If its really bad, check the bonnet catch itself isnt bent and the bonnet bar lines up with it.

As for a VTR conversion, basically it all fits. Same year same connector. You will need a VTR engine, inlet ecu and loom.
If your phase 1 you need phase 1, phase 2 you need phase 2.
Best off buying a scrap VTR thats rotted out or been in a rear shunt. That way you get the brakes, servo, gearbox and so on.

il have the wheels balanced next weekend.

my arms are getting tired from slamming however, noticed the front bumper is raised slightly, probably due to a bump its been in. easy to sort?

service, if thats how much it costs bugger it il do it myself.

    thanks for the help!
