Lowering- what's best for handling?

  1. #1
What do yous think is the best set up for better handling?

I'm thinking I might like to lower my vtr towards the end of the year once I've done a few other things and have the cash.. I'm more worried about how the car handles than how it looks but I still want to be able to park half on pavements if I need to and not have to worry too much about potholes and unsurfaced roads etc..

    What do yous reckon?

    saxo stance!!!

I personally think they look best, and handle best, 50 front, 40 rear.
Tires have more to do with it.

If its an out and out tack car, poundage's have more to do with it.

nose down all the way, no idea about handling but looks better all day anyday!

I'm down 70 at the front and around 100-120 at the back.
Sounds like it should have maaad reverse rake, but it doesnt look as bad as it sounds.

    Whereabouts are you from?

That's because your measurements are wrong

I went down 40mm. Id say thats enough personally.

Rear is still to be done but 40/45mm most likely.

For handling, optimum is between 25 and 40mm

Any lower and you'll ruin it completely.

Lower evenly, it's nose down for a reason!

As just mentioned, i'm sure the optimum for handling is around 30mm.

Has that brought it near enough down to standard height then?

Quick question...are you measuring the distance between the top fixing of the suspension damper to the bottom one (obviously without the damper in place)? Standard seems to be 30cm from middle of the bolt in either case. So a 40mm lowering is....26cm between the bolt holes. There's a slight angle on the damper so it's not a true vertical distance but can't be far off.

    What are your thoughts?

Measuring between the shock monting points on the rear has a ratio of 2.5

so reducing the distance from 305mm (standard) to 285mm would lower your car about 50mm ish

Yeah its much nicer to drive! It feels more "controlled", firmer but not harsh like some people made it out to be. :s

It depends.. 2 people i've asked are busy atm so. I'm just waiting really lol. Sooner the better as the rear looks ridic

What springs/ shocks did you go for?

Prickle, if you fit B8's it'll be harsh. trust me on that one

They are good though, no bounce off them.

Its on Faulkners 155lb and B8's on all 4 corners. (new)

Exactly what i've got on mine! But they're 45mm faulkners. Does handle well, can be quite crashy sometimes though, doesn't sound too healthy when it happens!

Haven't checked this in a while, cheers for all the advice

I was thinking around 30mm.. And it would make the car look a bit better as well without being ott.

So what about upgrading dampers etc? I found this:
    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/car-tunin...saxo-35mm.html

    Reckon that's a decent kit?

Ye mate that's not bad at all. Have u checked eBay or gum tree. U can sometimes pick good used items up for a fraction of the cost. I just got brand new gmax springs off the bay for £10 coz the guy bought vtr 40mm vtr springs for his 1.1 by mistake. There are bargains out there to b had
