Emmisions failure

  1. #1
Hi there, took my furio for an MOT today and it failed on the emissions. Readings were, CO %vol 0.554 & Lambda 1.046 (both fail on fast idle) HC was 76

Second fast idle CO % vol 0.609 & Lambda 1.041 (both fail) HC was 72

Natural Idle Test CO % vol 0.496

Mechanic mentioned that the cat may have blown which is what the rattle in the back box is.

I was just wondering if given those readings, could there be a cheap work around ie a service or something?

If the cat is rattling, my gut instinct would be to replace it really.

You should be able to pick one up fairly cheap, even a good second hand one will do the job

For the price of a service you could buy a new cat mate.

    BE WARNED

There might be NOTHING wrong with your car, it's the fucking government making unrealistic demands just to make people buy newer cars. They want old cars off the road just so they can rob people.

Thieving cunts, always squeezing every last penny out of the POOR, to give to the RICH.

My CO was 700 which is more than double what it ''should'' be even though there is NOTHING wrong with my car.

£250 for the clutch and other bits,
    £60 coil pack
    £40 lambda sensor
    £10 coolant temp sensor
    £70 ECU

And for what? Nothing, don't think there's anything wrong with your car, it's the fucking government robbing the poor!

By the way, air filter is fine, every air leak closed up. Valves fine, no rattle, engine doesn't hold back, goes fast for a 1.1. It isn't blowing shit out the other end either.

So I've come to the conclusion that I'm searching for a problem that isn't there! Apart from David Cameron but who's going to pluck up the courage to shoot the cunt?!

What a fucking nob. If your co is 700 there is something drastically wrong with your car. My car that is well maintained and well looked after with decent oil and fuel was less than half the legal limit.

Now stop crying and sort you shit box of a car out.

so what's wrong with my car because I've replaced fucking everything.

Sort my car out? I'm not a fucking mechanic! I've bought shitloads of new bits for it and can't you read? I said the car drives fine!

I'm at wits end because I've pumped loads of money into it and it still won't pass! So please tell me Mr. Expert, what is ''drastically wrong'' with my car? new ecu, new lambda, new coolant temp sensor, new cat, new coilpack, air filter isn't dirty. no crap is coming out the other end, doesn't hold back, doesn't stutter, doesn't hunt, doesn't misfire.

so whats drastically wrong with my shit box of a car then?

acting like a cunt on a public forum will not help.

Fuck me, what have I started here, gulp...

For information, the cat isnt rattling, the back box has a rattle in it due to 'cat insides blowing and falling through the baffles in the back box'.

A service I would do myself with parts bought from a family member who works at a motor factors.

I will say that I may well steal this line "acting like a cunt on a public forum will not help.", I fucking love that I do, love it.

Thanks to all concerned for the comments and advice though, much appreciated

    You have 2 posts?

Also just replace the cat you can get the cheap ones for £30. stick some fuel system cleaner in it and give it a hard drive just before the test.

Cat is either too cold, or your car is running far too rich.

MOT tester should be running your engine until the fans kick in before doing the missions test.

You haven't replaced the MAP sensor - the most common cause for overfueling.

My dads jeep does 16mpg, it's a 4.0 from 1997, it still meets the threshold for emissions (0.2% CO). after a long lengthy test lol

Also, if your car is an 8v model, are the rockers set correctly?

Right, checked the Lambda Sensor and guess what...it wasn't even finger tight!! Tightened the bitch up and got the multi meter over it and was flicking from 0.1 to 0.8 volts so by accounts of figures I have read on the web this is fine.

Ordered and fitted new cat, now what a bollock this is, can I get it to seal gas tight on the downpipe?? Can I fucke!!

now looking at Citroen service online, the fire ring is shown going on to the cat narrow taper first, I have fitted it the other way around to enable easy lining up on the down pipe.

Which way round is this bloody thing meant to go lol??

I have attached a copy of the page I'm looking at...

    wait wut?

you answered your own question !!

your car must have been seriously over fuelling without a lambda sensor...

I haven't really as sliding the ring onto the cat as per the diagram makes no sense.

i would have thought the taper is to aid alignment into the down pipe, are you saying that the thicker flat edge butts into the downpipe?

As per the fueling, double the limit, with an air leak giving high Lambda reading.

If your car is failing that badly it could be due a cylinder head refurb. Now stop acting like a child, as you yourself have admitted you're not a mechanic, there are people on this site who are willing to help you out.

Right hold on a minute, how am I acting like a child by asking a simple question?

I posted the original figures up and what I have done.

I am simply asking which way round the fire ring goes.

    Dear Mutley249,
I had exactly the same problem, as you have, but on my daughters megane once. It failed the emissions on a leaky oxyegen sender in the exhaust frontpipe.
You are correct in that, the diagram is showing the exhaust " ring " on the catalytic conveter, the wrong way round. It should as you say slope " away " from the cat.
    I hope this helps,
    Vince,

    Vince,
Vince, thank you very much. It did puzzle me but thanks again.

Wadoryu, maybe you need to wind your neck in and actually read who has been posting 'childish comments' it wasn't me. Surely as a student, you have grasped the basics of reading the whole thread and who posts what??

To the main of you, I thank you all for responding and trying to help, I appreciate it very much.
