fuel pump relay

is the fuel pump relay the same on all vtr's?

mine has a single pin ecu but i can borrow one from a 3 plug Ecu to try so i can see if that is the fault

Same relay throughout the saxo range mate.

No there's a Black one or a Brown one if you get the one wrong it wont plug in so get the same color as your original one

As above, older have black, newer have brown

And the don't fit, if you make them fit they still won't work

I'm sure it changes with plugs as well.

Brown for later models and black for older. or maybe that's the other way about

    Definitely 2 types

    Other way round

Correct been though this pile of S**T before lol

ok thanks for that, that confirms that its not the fuel pump relay that is causing mine to not start.

roll on Tuesday when the new crank sensor arrives to try that

    Does the fuel pump prime?
  11. #11
no it doesn't and the diagnostic came back with an unknown fault
  12. #12
run a battery to the pump to see if it works like that. which relay color do you have black or brown?
  13. #13
black and yes that did work
  14. #14
ok cool bridge the fuel pump & ignition live wires behind the relay to rule the relay out.

ok thanks i will try that if the crank sensor does not work. i tried relays from a 106 gti and also a quicksilver
  16. #16
crank sensor has no effect on the fuel pump prime matey
  17. #17
i have to try it as i don't know what else to try and i am supposed to be racing it on Easter Monday!

unfortunately now i have had so many different opinions i don't know who to listen to anymore either :-(

thanks for your help, i appreciate all input

But it would say in my post that I had edited it with a time stamp?

    I think you're seeing things.

Nope, not if you're quick as you're fully aware

Hey I'm helping littlun with his saxo, can you tell us what colour wires we need to bridge?? Don't fancy getting the wrong ones

also, we found a broken wire from the coil pack to earth. it goes through a small black box. is this just an earth or is it possible the black box is some sort of resistor and would this cause the fuel pump to not prime?

That's a capacitor, reduces interference and can cause a misfire if it's not connected.

wouldn't prevent the fuel pump from running no.
  28. #28
ok didn't think it would :-(

we have now fitted another fuel pump relay but still the fuel pump won't prime. any ideas as to what we should try next?

had a bit of a play with a multimeter this afternoon and found that when turning the car over there is power to the coil pack. we also found that there is fuel as far as the fuel rail yet still the car won't start. could the ecu be dead? the fuel pump will not prime unless its got a direct feed from the battery but even then the car doesn't start
