Can I unplug underseat airbag connections ?

  1. #1
I think I need to give these a blast with some electrical connection cleaner of some sort because my air bag light comes on and off underneath the passenger seat.

When I wiggle the wires it goes off but comes back on in a day or two.

Can i safely just disconnect the plug underneath with engine off without anything happening ?

Yes but the light will stay on. Take the bulb out. Problem solved

    Won't go through mot.

Unplug the battery and leave it for 15-20 min before unplugging them, may be just for taking the steering wheel out but just to be safe

I didn't mean take the plug out permanently. I can't stand the thought of hiding a problem and not fixing it. The light tells me there's something wrong with the airbag system so why would I ignore it.

I meant, just to clean it or blow some compressed air in their I think it should fix it. It seems to be just a dirty connection.

    Wrong. MOT fail created.

Yeah you can though the rule of thumb would be to unplug the battery while working on electrics.

My old 106 went through two MOTs with the airbag light on, it's an advisory not a failure.

It's now a failure with the new rules. I'm pretty sure. They started from the 20th of this month.

Nope. MOT fail if the light is on but if its not there altogether then its not a fail. Just done my MOT course, its like a loop hole

Unlike Ireland where if the light doesn't come on with ignition, even from factory they want a letter from the manufacturer as proof!

Never known a tester to be that picky. If you tell them its never had one theyre supposed to give you the benifit of a doubt

I read on here somewhere, that you can solder in new wires and do away with the plug, just make sure the new wires go to the correct old wires
