slight whine from gearbox area

   used to get a whine when starting the engine, would stay there for a while and then disappear. its not loud, goes when you rev it and comes back on tickover. its there all the time now, could it the clutch bearing?

   I might be mistaken but I smell a starter motor belt.

   But yeah OP he meant the alternator belt.. might need tightening up.
