What else would cause...

The rear wheels to look pissed and have inner tyre wear?

Just checked the trailing arms on this Saxo and both sides have no play other than the give in the shockers, no lateral movement at all?

I'm at a loss at the mo

    Rear beam nakad!

There doesn't have to be any play in the trailing arms. My beam is knackered as well and when the car is in the air the wheel is solid no play at all. The garage said the stub pin is bent - or something like that lol, so still need a new axle

As above, bushes gone or your car has been in a bump

Could not that be the hub's pin?

Wouldn't it still pass an MOT what with there being no movement?

    There must be movement

Have you jacked it right up, hands at 11 and 5, then at 1and 7 and literally twisted the wheel?.

Either way if its rubbing the arch it'll still fail regardless of any play, if nothing else it's a risk of a blow out

Yes did that, gave it some welly no movement.
