When im driving there is hardly a noise but as soon as i even touch the throttle or go round a corner the whinning noise starts. It happens when the car is driven for a while and is at its loudest at about 50mph. Im unsure if it is the cv joint as i can hear the dust cover pop off when i slightly turn the wheel. Anyone have a idea what this is?

#2got any audio equipment installed ? subs amps ?
-
#3yes but they have been installed for over a year and never been an issue. Ive just checked under the car and there's some oil on my wheel because of the dustcover. Do you reckon all of the oil could have dried out and the fiction is now causing the whine?

#5What about cambelt tensioner, this went on my VTS and it squeeled like a bloody pig.

#6Dear pugway92,
What you need to do is to put a squeezale tube of " graphite grease " into the holes in the cv joint, where the ball bearings are. And then fill up the cv gaiter with the same grease, and then refit your cv boot back onto the cv joint and secure it with a large cable tie.
You may be easier with jacking it up and take the wheel off.
Once you have done that, you need to road test the car and listen for any rumbling wheel bearings

#7yeah ive done that and its 10x better doesn't make a noise while driving in a straight line but when im driving really slow in 1st or turning right it makes the noise but nowhere near as bad have i put enough grease on?
-
#8My car was doing the same. Did the same as you, packed it with grease and refitted the boot and it stopped most of the noise. Changed both driveshafts as they were bent or something anyway and it completely stopped. Drives smooth now

#9probably knackered the bearings by running it without grease. Shafts arent expensive, if it still happens check out the level of the gearbox oil if you determine it isnt engine related
-
#10Or just change the gearbox oil while your there, thats what I did. Loads leaked out when I removed the shafts anyway. Plus its probably never been changed.

#11Yeah or that. Only takes 2l so its a cheap to refill with decent oil- obviously drain it before you do a shaft change. 75w80 is what you want
