   Hi guys, Just registered today....
   
   
   I have a 200 X Reg VTR, I have been hereing a metal noise when in low revs 1st and 2nd, Took it straight to the mechanic, he has told me the gearbox is on its way out, apparanlty the noise i here is the barings....
   
   He's quoted me £150 for a new box including fitting, that cheap?

   seems fair to me aslong as it is the box not just the bearings!

   got to be happy with that price, just make sure he is changine the box as i know some dogey mechanics that take them in and say there changing the box but instead they just change the gearbox oil run it, then change the oil again to clear out metal fillings and then finally they put a thicker oil in it which normally stops the whine

   That is a good price. I got quoted £260 to get a new clutch and I needed a new gearbox too, but I had to find my own.

   why?? that is extremely cheap if he was replacing bearings, labour time would be huge.
