Important! : Top hose steaming!

  1. #1
    Hello guys and girls.

I just replaced the radiator in my 1.5d and after just a few minutes, the top radiator hose was boiling hot, so hot that it was steaming all along the hose quite clearly. Im assuming this is not usual but what is the problem!!?

So far ive replaced the radiator, thermostat, radiator fan switch and tested all of the sensors and they are all fine... help!

Has it got air in the system?

    Could be headgasket.

Thats normal if you've got the top hose wet with coolant, and then put it back together and the stat is open. What stat have they given you as well? one that opens a lower temp. means top hose will get hot sooner. I use an 82 degree in my saxo

Bled the system a few times now pretty sure there's no air in the system. And im using an 82 as well. That was replaced about a month ago and i checked it was working in some boiling water so i know that works.

The car was just sitting for a good 15 mins idling and it was too hot to touch. I know there was coolant on the outside but its been wiped away now.

so where is the steam coming from? you need to determine this
And yes in 15 minutes it will be hot as the stat opens earlier

Its coming off the top hose. like the hose cant hold the heat of the coolant and its steaming hot. I dont know if this is a problem but ive never herd of it being like that

get a video of that to be honest, it shouldn't steaming unless its so perished its leaking coolant

No problem, infuriating when an easy job throws up issues. pipe could be shot but it it was fine before then makes me think otherwise?

Is the hose swollen at all mate?

ah its very annoying when small things turn out to be something their not! it dont seem to be bulging anywhere except around the end of the hose where it connects to the rad but all seems normal to me.

And im not sure if it was fine before, the same smoking/steaming was there before i replaced the radiator. ill get a video up this evening at some point
