What's that bit next to the battery called?

It's the valve that selects either cold air of air over the outlet manifold. Is it called an air temperature valve? I need to replace it since the battery was a little loose and slid over and smashed the valve thingy to shjt. I would like to identify it so I can buy another or how ever many bits with it.

It's my sons saxo 1.1i has started conking out lately, usually when warm. He's going back to Uni soon with it. I've run a bottle of injector cleaner through the fuel tank. Changed the spark plugs and leads, changed air filter. I have a petrol filter to fit next. It's an R reg and has done 72k.

It's actually been running ok for half a day now, but as I say the valve thingy has been crushed by the battery.

    Any time/words very much appreciated.

    Thank you.

just go to the scrapyard and get another off a 1.1. No brainer

I have a feeling its just a cold air feed and has no real effect on anything. Im not sure why it would be conking out on you.

Is it not the radiator bleed nipple?

If its the box in the inlet witch corrigated tubing off the manifold the car should run fine without it
    Just remove it

If its still cutting out without it fitted you have other issues it may be blocking airflow atm

Remove it completely - it's not needed at all and it's purely for emissions.

The conking out is it probably restricting air flow due to it being crushed.
