What does a satchshift do?

  1. #1
Just wondering.. what benefits do they have/ why do people have them?

they just look like a really big gear stick lol do they still go into gear the standard way?

    eg.
    1 3 5
    2 4 R
  2. #2
Guessing better for changing gear on track as higher, shorter shift maybe? Never looked into them
  3. #3
Replaces the whole gearshift mechanism, brings the gearstick close to the wheel, engages in gears exactly the same way.
  4. #4
so are they similar to a quickshift? but just a longer stick which brings it close to the wheel?
  5. #5
Basically its a quickshift on a whole new level
Much tighter engagement and adjustable throw ect
  6. #6
Easy answer, if your putting your car on the track they are well worth it, faster and more precise shifts
If your not I'd say they are still great but maybe not so much in the worth it zone

    Personally I love mine.

its not just for track, I have one for a rally car.
  8. #8
I'd love to have a go with one. It can only improve the woolley change on the MA box!
  9. #9
    interesting...

yeah i'd like to have a go in one too. Any offers lol?
  10. #10
If anyone lives near canvey you can have a try of mine... If youve got the money to get one, go for it, its one of the best things i did...
  11. #11
    I dont feel the need

If you are into driving on track them you really should.

    Absolutely love mine.
  13. #13
so they dont use the standard gear linkages at all?

do you need to cut a hole in the bulkhead for them?

You need to make 2 holes, but no it completely changes the standard mechanism.

im pretty sure you could get a decent quickshift and group n gear linkages and you would get a decent precise gear throw

i bought a milled aluminium gmc one looking at gettin constella gear linkages
  16. #16
im not even intersted in changing anything with my car tbh i was just curious lol

decent yes, but not anywhere near to the quality of the satchshift

I imagine it to be like a gate throw like you see on old school ferraris

You u need to remove all the centre console and everything to use one of these?

No. You may need to notch both the centre console and the bottom of the dash but if you're careful then you can do it and it remains invisible

Thanks Ross, my linkages are off my vtr ATM as the wear gone, so by the time I have bought all brand new rose jointed linkages and everything else, I'm gonna be spending a bit, I would rather spend a bit more on one of these, I will be using it as a daily though, I don't do that many miles, but is it really that unsuitable and only for track cars? These do look awesome though
  29. #29
Out of interest, how do these keep their value when coming to sell second hand?
  30. #30
They are a good piece of kit ive used them a few times. Its alot to fit them but like mentioned, if you can warrent it, then get one.

Not at all - they're totally and absolutely fine on the road. In fact, I'd argue that on a road car doing "average miles" you'll be rewarded more than on a track car as it'll see much more use Do it

They don't come up often second hand (in fact, I think I've only seen one ever second hand and that was never used) which probably says something about how well loved they are

Also if anyone is looking for one I'm running a group buy for the kits on here.

Nice sly bit of advertisement ;-)

That's why I'm interested to see how they sell second hand.
I've got other stuff to sort on the car as a priority at the mo, but its very tempting! So I'm thinking if I buy one but need the money for something else I can sell it on.

    edit: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...=424462&page=9

thats my build thread and shows the setup off the car and on the next page it setup in the car... its close to the exhaust in that picture but the exhaust needed a little jiggle anyway and it brought it further away after jiggling...

Seen a fair few second hand. i bought mine second hand, unused like a lot of them are.

I paid 250 second hand which is about the going rate. So a pretty good resale tbf.

If your not interested in getting one now, just wait! get one when all the "need to" bits are bought. i just waited until a second hand one came up!
  38. #38
I am defiantly getting on now, got myself on the group buy, there 250 brand new on that so cant moan, do look fucking awesome these things

If you don't have the £250 for a Satchshift, then Constella or Kam Linkages, along with an OBP quickshift lever, and replacement selection arm and nylon ball and bush arm that bolts to the firewall from Citroen will transform your worn gear change feel.

I doubt it's Satchshift level, but mine really is so much more precise and "slot in" than it's ever been. £100 ish, I'll still have a satchshift when I can justify one!

Does anyone know if the satchshift kit has some kind of homologation?
I talked to a race inspector today and he said if it is not homologated it cannot be used for racing on Greece...
  41. #41
    eh?

are the saxo's even homologated... motorsport homolognation im talking.... the s1600 rally car was but i dont think the road car is motorsport homolognated...

Group N2 or group A6 for 1,6 lt saxos single manifold depending on modifications and kit car - s1600 for set up with Throttle bodies , sequential gearboxes etc
These categories are for hillclimb and tarmac rallys for sure. Track racing is a bit more open to modification i think

    just to add my 2p...

I also love my satshift, great bit of kit

Its certainly not homologated. Only expensive official Group N and Group A manufacturer parts are.

Im guessing a satchshift is some thing you need to try to see if you like it before buying?

    Im debating one right now.
  46. #46
    Next on my list..

Stew I'd really recommend one to you after having a play with one, even if its just for the fact you barely have to move to shift and can get both hands straight back on the wheel to power on with much better control
  47. #47
2 of my mates have a satshift and they are the best gear change ever, feel great, close to the wheel to snatch a shift, and look the doggs in ur car. But more track use of course, and they make u wanna hammer it everywhere
  48. #48
what's the shaft that goes under the dash? does it go through the bulk head or something?
  49. #49
I've had both group N linkages / quickshift and the Satchshift and they are Worlds apart in my opinion. The build quality is superb too.

Yes, through one of two holes that have to be cut,
  51. #51
Then remove ur inlet to get to the shaft lol, alot easier if the engines out lol
  52. #52
Is there a thread as how to fit this product
  53. #53
There are instructions on the kam racing website.
