Cambelt jumped a tooth

My cambelt has jumped a tooth what would the damage be?

Bent valves most probably, Have you attempted to do the cambelt yourself?

I remember seeing a thread where you asked about cambelt kits?

Nope havent done it yet mate. I'm not attempting it though

    Dear Skitts123,
First thing I would do is to whip your plugs out and check the compressions
To do the compressions check correctly, you need to put the car on full throttle ( when you are turning the engine over on the starter motor ) you will obviously need to do this every time and for all four cylinders too
    I hope this helps,

I wouldnt turn it over if its jumped a tooth incase you do more damage. Chances are the engine is more or less nackered

    Dear Skitts123,
    Sorry forget that.
You can,t turn it over can you !
Only thing you can do then, I am affraid is to whip the cylinder head off and have a look at the damage.

I'm guessing the valves are going to be bent? I'm not starting it as it sounds like a tractor and is doing more damage.

Is it worth fixing or putting a new engine in it? Or even breaking it?

Whip the head of and see if damage has been done to the pistons, new heads are ten a penny. Atleast changing the head and doing the cambelt, you know the engines sound. As apposed to buying another engine.

Not necessarily true. As long as the pistons aren't too badly smashed up so you get compression and the bores not scored from bits of valve breaking you might be ok with a new head. Or even just new valves in the head if the valves are slightly bent
