Boot not locking

  1. #1
Since I've had the car the key doesn't even turn in the boot but it always locked via central locking.

Noticed earlier it isn't locking through central locking. It has stopped making a loud noise a few days ago when locked so guessing thats the boot not locking. Is it likely something has been unplugged, if so where?

When it brightens up I'll pull the car apart but don't know what I'm looking for at all. I have a voltmeter, any wires I should check for continuity?

If it doesnt lock with your key, chances are the boot lit was replaced, but the locks were never swapped.
As for checking the wires, it's simple. Under the black plastic on the tail gait.
Few pics in my guide may help you.

Yes I know theres a wiper motor there, but the wires are just behind it...

Take off the plastic panel inside the boot(3, t20 screws)Theres an operating rod going to an actuator check to see if the rod hasn`t become detached.

Okay cheers for the pics. Ill have a crack tomorrow. Bit confused as it was working but now isn't. Is there a bit of wire that gets crushed or a connector that gets unplugged a lot?

Only just seen this, okay cool. It isn't making the noise any more though. Guessing this was the actuator functioning?

It could be a faulty actuator, disconnected control rod or the plug for the actuator is loose/disconnected mate.

fiver says dead actuator. 5 minutes job to replace to remove. Check that your boot actually locks, because a dead actuator sort of half engages (when it makes that screeching noise) itself meaning you can open the lock just by punching it.

Turns out the actuator is duff. Bit of wd40 helping it to slide. Shame I can't take it apart. Hopefully that should keep it going for a bit. Next time when the noise stops I'll know what it is and I'll definitely buy a new one. Cheers for the help guys
