Retarded mechanic told me the other week that my exhaust won't pass at their garages and I should take it somewhere else lol cause exhaust too loud apparently although it has a cat on it still...? It's loud in neutral but yeah will certain places pass it lol? Tempted to just get them to come outside and have a listen then if they say it wouldn't pass go somewhere else til I found a place tat would pass it or just get a bosh job lol
Will my vts pass its MOT? Apparently too loud exhaust...

#2Im pretty sure mot's should only test for emissions, not noise. Mine passed a couple of years ago with a stupidly loud 5" cannon with one baffle and the cat in the whole system lol. He's probably just saying that to you as he's a grumpy old fart that doesn't like modified cars lol

#3Depends on tester IMO.
Mine passed but got an advisery. "noisy exhaust"1 user thanked this post: -
#4Can fail on noisy exhaust but normally just advisory
-
#5As said above...mine is ridiculous but passes every year
-
#6When it comes to exhaust noise the tester has to compare it to a standard version of your car.
So basically if its much louder than a standard exhaust then they have reason to fail it if they want to. Its MOTers discretion1 user thanked this post: -
#7Thanks all. Think ill just straight up ask an MOT place if they'd fail it cause too noisy or not before getting an MOT with them... All MOT places round here are shitty scams. Just gunna ask in advance for them to listen to my engine get a recommendation of they say they'd fail it go elsewhere lol

#8yeah just do that
someone will want your business
mine passes every year with a loud exhuast... -
#9Motorbikes must be less than 98 decibels to pass MOT, but cars are all down to the mot testers discretion.
I would say just take it somewhere else and ask them that the exhaust is a bit loud but the cat and such is still installed and see what they'll say. Better to ask first then having to pay and try to quieten it in the future. -
#10Taken from the MOT tester's manual.
Method of inspection
b. assess subjectively the effectiveness of the silencer in reducing exhaust noise to a level considered to be average for the vehicle
Reason for failure.
b. a silencer in such a condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a silencer in average condition -
#11Apparently they're not allowed to fail it as there's no sound restrictions for cars. Although some places will try it on and not put it through. Most normal places that want business will not be dumb ugly old retarded boring spastic stereotypical prejudice cunts ? Only a guess
