welding rear arch/floor

  1. #1
My rallye has gone here and im wondering what the best way of doing it is? Its gone a little on the boot floor and also in the arch.

Anyone got pics of how theirs was done? Welded from inside or outside?

    Thanks

Using an angle grinder with a wire brush attachment go at the rust and see just how much is missing. Then, there are several ways to cut it out, cut the rust out.
I personally would use a cereal box to make a stencil using scissors. Once the piece fits perfectly use it as a stencil on your 0.8mm plate or whatever your using, then using a magnet to hold the panel in place, tack it on and begin to weld.

Be cautious of heat warping things, melting things, setting fire to things etc.
I would totally strip the back end of the car interior wise to be safe and have a mate with a fire extinguisher loiter around on look out while you weld.

    Cars stripped anyway

Is it only a two skin panel where the strengthengin bit is?

Ill cut away the rot tommorow and see what im left with, thanks!

Sometimes it looks bad but you only have a milk bottle top sized hole, other times a little patch of the underseal looks to have come away, you go at it and you find theres a hole the size of a football lol.

when i found mine it looked to be pretty small so got the grinder out plated it up few months later my boot floor completely split from the arch on drivers side so welded it then plated it and some more weld then some underseal and its fine now but the biggest job is trying to weld Citroen's tin foil and its quite hard to make it look good inside again

If you have a grinder with a flapper disc on it you can make it look half decent.
If your welding to rust or painted metal it can be hard to get a tidy weld though!

i cut an inch tall strip out in the end to patch it in flush , gonna seam weld then flap flush, seam seal and no one will know
