Airbag light.

  1. #1
I've just fitted my resistors to all 3 plugs.

    M2R2 ones from maplins.

When I turn the car on the light goes on and off, and stays off for a while, but then comes back on for some reason...

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

    Recheck your connections mate.

That's what I don't understand. If the light goes off then eventually comes back on?

The resistors are taped into the plugs so shouldn't move. Might just cut the plugs and attach them directly.

i cheated and took clocks out split them and put some black tape over the air bag sign job done only did this because removed all the airbags incl wires and airbag ecu and the light was still on and there was no where to put any resistors

That still counts as a fail on new mot regs.

It needs to come on then go off.

No it doesnt. It just must not be on. The abs light must come on and go off but the airbag light just must not be on

I thought it was supposed to come on when on ignition then after its starts it goes out yea ?

The abs light does but it says nothing about the airbag light in the mot manual. Only if its on its a fail. If its not there, its a pass

Ill see what my mate says (mot tester) as I have resistors in so it does go off but only after the car starts might jus take the bulb out if that's the case

No the regs state it must come on at ignition and then go out after a few seconds. Same as ABS.

    That's what i've always read.

so back on topic.. that is a strange problem that the light would come back on..

have you soldered the resistors? thats how i did mine years ago and it's been fine.

Or maybe your pretensioners arent the problem and its your airbag which needs a resistor? could try and put a resistor in the airbag connector just to see if that will cure the problem

yea exactly thats what i thought!

and this is what mine does thankfully

I have put resistors in all of the plugs, but have not cut plugs/soldered them onto the wiring...

Maybe this is where i am going wrong?

Airbag AND seat pretensioners have resistors plugged in, just seems strange...

Appreciate the input though guys. might be a case of cutting and soldering tbh

    that may be the problem
its the shitty connector blocks which are usually the problem anyway

i wouldnt cut the airbag plug just yet, plug it back into the airbag because it probably isnt the problem.
What ive done with my wires under the seats was cut the connector block of and solder a resistor to them.

So now the seat pretensioners and both bypassed, but the airbag is still plugged in so hopefully might still go off in a crash (they never deploy anyway but)

    Cheers for the reply.

thought it would be the connections being awful (What isnt on these cars lulz -_-)

Sorry, i didnt mention i have no airbag as i have an aftermarket sparco wheel one there!

ohh.. well in that case you'd need a resistor for the airbag plug too lol
  18. #18
Did you use 2.2 ohm resistors? these are the correct ones.
  19. #19
Yeah, 2.2 ohm resistors from maplins M2R2

And no, i have one in the airbag plug as well mate, so not that.
