Saxo vtr stood for 2 years

    Hey guys just bought my 4th saxo today, its a 1998 vtr mk1 with 21k on the clock totally standard.

    However its been stood for 2 years since it was last being used on a semi-regular basis. It started up straight away today with the help of a battery booster and all sounded ok but I wanted to know what you guys would recommend getting sorted before I get it Mot'd and start using it regularly.

    I know an oil change would be in order but what about other fluids gearbox oil, brake fluid, coolant? will all these need changing aswell? The only thing that has been changed since brand new is the front tyres and a few oil changes so its pretty much as it rolled out the factory other than some added rust to bits and pieces as it hasnt been garaged for the past two years although it was garaged before that, luckily the underside was waxoyl'd so the body itself is fine.

    thats pretty cool for a mk1 to be that new lol

    if it were mine, i'd give it a full service. Oil, filter, airfilter, fuel filter, spark plugs, coolant. Id probs leave gearbox oil and brake fluid if all is ok

    Yeah its certainly the best example I've seen in a very long time I'll try and get pics up at some point of it.

    Ok cool I'll get those things sorted out over the weekend, what about cambelt do they perish badly with age? Not sure if its something I should be doing before driving it anywhere or if it will be ok till its got through its mot and had a drive to get the surface rust off the brakes

    Get a cambelt sorted on it ASAP unless its had one more recently.
    Its advised you do them every 5 years/60K but as its only done 20k ish the owner may not have done one.

    Ok might get the garage to fit one before the MOT is carried out as I'm pretty certain other than oil and front tyres its had nothing else done, I have a new belt and waterpump in the garage from a previous saxo so that will save me some £. what about the tensioners I'm guessing tensioners are mileage related not age so wouldnt need to be done? Or should I cough up and change those aswell? Car is being transported here for tomorrow night so will get pics up on sunday hopefully.

    tensioner usually comes as part of the cambelt kit i thought

    Check your brakes over,if the car hasn`t been moved then chances are the brakes maybe seized.

    Yea I'd do brakes fluids filter etc don't want and crap sucked ino the engine if its been stood
