J4 to JP4 oil conversion query

    Hi,

I have just fitted a sandwich plate to my 2007 jp4 and have noticed that the threaded pipe part number 1103 54 i purchased is really quite short.

when I screw it into the jp4 block i can only screw in a few threads if i want some available for my oil filter, becasue the threaded hole in the block is recessed quite a bit from the face of the block there are only a few threads available protruding out, its nowhere near finger tight in the block, the opposing force of the oil filter is what makes it solid

    so im thinking either:

1.this is the norm, it seems to have a fairly solid grip, although i lost the first bit of thread on the sandwich plate fine tuning it
2.the threaded bar i have is too short
3.the hole in my block is recessed further than normal

can anyone shed any light on this?

    thanks

    yes

screw threade sleeve adaptor into block as far as it will go ,then fit sandwhich plate with bolt to block and tighten
    then fit filter

    Thanks,

your theory is obviously correct but the part I have is wrong, the one I ordered is 1103 54, I have ordered 1103 A7 in to see if that is better, its about a cm longer and I hope its the same construction, it says its for the engine with the oil cooler

just had same problem today using a very late block and the threads are tapped much deeper as the std adaptor has a seat ,old style relies on the thread in the block not being very deep so it locks the threaded tube at correct height

my solution is to screw the adaptor for the block onto the sandwich plate adptor(with enough sticking out for block) and add a spot of weld to it make sure it has enough thread sticking out to locate in the block deep enough to hold it ,but not go in so far that there is nothing left to attach to the other plate adaptor .
no- the 1103 a7 will still not be long enough --thats the type i use .
you could, i suppose use lcotite on the adpator into the block --if you get both parts clean enough --leave over night then fit the sandwich plate ,
or even damage the thread a little on the adptor for block so it is a tight fit and does not go in as far.
