Mysterious Engine Revs

    Hi all, A few weeks ago I noticed the engine in my VTR started to rev by itself. It would only happen a few times, usually after it started from cold and until it got to a reasonable temp. But it now does it at any engine temp. When its idling it will suddenly rev from 850 to 1200 or 1500 revs for a couple of seconds and then settle down to idle again. Anyone tell me as to what is causing this? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

    Could be icv

    Give it a clean, sure there's a guide on here too if it helps, common thing to be asked

    Check your Therrmostat or ICV ( Idle Control Valve ) Good Luck!

    mine did that and i just cleaned it out and it hasnt done it since, so its worth doing mate

    Like they said, idle control valve more than likely, n just check ur accelerater pedal isn't sticking, my old car use to stick on abit, thought it was the icv but was my pedal

    i have never heard of pedal sticking, its usually idle control valve
