saxo vtr...headgasket-MLS/normal

  1. #1
i just removed my cylinder head from my mk2 vtr saxo(01-) and it has a multi layer steel gasket, the one i am replacing it with is a normal fibre gasket with the metal rings around the cylinders... anyone know if it matters what you use?

Nevermind il take the new one back and get an MLS

Get an MLS before you do the job if you can, I fitted a fibre and was advised to just leave it as is if its not playing up. I've had no problems with it though

Cheers mate, yeah im taking the new one back for an exchange with a MLS gasket tomorrow.

The difference in gasket thickness is very noticeble and since im throwing in a high lift cam aswell i cant risk valve to piston contact lol .

Im wondering if the head was skimmed previously for it to have an MLS, didnt know they fitted them as standard on vtrs

They were fitted to black tops then from 1999 on mls was standard. I created a thread a few weeks ago asking so cheers to those who told me that info I don't think a fibre one would do any harm but if its not fitted you can swap it. What lift is the cam?

The lift is 10.51mm iirc, duration is 266 so its not a wild cam by any means

you'd be fine with a fibre gasket mate but anyway good luck with the swap, I'll look for the guide when it done

Cheers mate, i did wonder but just talked to the parts bloke and he said there are two different gaskets listed 1.3mm or 1.5mm mls and the fibre ones compress down to less than 1mm when torqued up so theres quite i bit of clearence difference. Yeah guide will be up either later tonight or tomorrow
