97 Saxo 1.1 power assisted steering pump not working, heater blower & heated rear screen working when engine running. Power steering pump has been working intermittently & now not at all. Can you check the grey relay off the car to see if it is ok-also if buying second hand? I need to check the inline fuse but does the relay & or the fuse affect the power steering pump?

#2The relay affects the pump yes, start the car & give the pas pump a tap with a hammer as the brushes stick(temp fix)

#3Thanks. Maybe tap it via a stick & hammer as access a bit tight. Looking like a dodgy pump then? Relay: 12 volts across two pins should close the other two (switch)?

#4Tap the pump from underneath mate.

#5Ok thanks.

#6I hit it with a hammer underneath engine running & it worked. When re-started about an hour later I had to hit it again to work. Good news that it is a sticky electric pump & not ignition switch etc. problem. It looks to me like the electric motor part of the pump separates from the pump. Is it possible to remove the motor only from the car without spilling fluid & clean the brushes etc.? Is there any information anywhere on how to - or has anyone done this before? A pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated. Many thanks for help so far it has been very helpful.

#7There is a guide on here mate for reconditioning the pump, you`d have to take off the whole pump from the car in order to do so though.

#8Thanks. Links dead unfortunately. The car is drivable but heavy to park. I could just carry on driving it & give it a whack to get it working for its next mot. Is there a safety issue here i.e. is the steering column etc. capable of the loading without psa long term?

#9Ok I now have to tap the pump every time the engine is restarted. I now have to service the pump motor brushes etc. The main problem seems to be removing & re-placing the end plate securely. It looks to be lugs spread over the end plate somehow. Has anyone done this & cleaned or replaced brushes etc.? Can the plate be tack welded back on? The car is not worth the cost of a new pump.

#10A second hand pump can be had for £30 or so and will probably then outlive the car. All pumps are interchangable from all models of saxo and 106 (although some have different reservoirs) so you shouldn't have a problem finding oneQuote:Ok I now have to tap the pump every time the engine is restarted. #11Thanks. How about checking a second hand pump is ok. Can you run 12v through it & how? I have a 12v jump starter that would do. I would then have the old one to have a go at servicing.

#12How about drilling a small hole in the end plate, giving it a good squirt of wd40or switch cleaner with the pump in place & plugging it up afterwards. Anybody tried this?
-
#13Its worth a shot, after all if it doesnt work you've not lost anything
-
#14I’m thinking small drill dipped in grease to catch the swarf & a right angle attachment in the drill. Hole just big enough for plastic wd40 tube. It may be easier to plug the hole than to re-attach the end plate. Kill or cure.

#15Does anyone have a picture of the pump with the end plate off showing whats on the behind it?
