My fuses keep melting.... HELP!?

  1. #1
Hey peoples i need a little help regarding my fuses.
Basically my dashboard light fuse blew in my car a couple of days ago so i brought some fuses from my local discount store. When i put one of my new fuses in to replace the old one it started melting withing 30 seconds and became a pain to remove. Any ideas why this might be happening i have tried about 4 fuses with the same melting outcome?

Tbh don`t keep on changing fuses if they melt, disconnect your battery & call an auto electrician out mate.

    Thanks for the reply!

The car functions correctly still with no other fuses melting just the dashboard light out. Any idea what the problem could be?

At a pure guess I think you either have 2 wires shorting out against each other or an earthing problem of some kind mate.

If a fuse is melting the current that circuit is pulling is more that the rated fuse

Any new addiation to circuit ?

Are you replacing with the same amp fuse ?

No theres no new circuit and yeah its the same amp fuse as the old one its a 20.
The only thing i think it could be is that the fuses are really cheap ones from china or like stevo said wires shorting.

when your fuses melt whats happening there is so much load there to be energised there is going to be more current being sent round the circuit to energise all the loads. so you either have to cut down how many loads there is or increase the fuse. buy make sure you do not put the fuse bigger than the cable rating or it will melt. or there could be a loose connection and shorting out sending lots of current down that way?
