Headlights MOT failure

  1. #1
My headlights fail on the MOT as well as the rear beam.

Apparently the pattern is wrong and the level of them.

He claimed they were aftermarket which they aren't.

    They are standard.

Now I put them in the oven and took the silver parts out from around the outside, will this cause the pattern change?

Also, the high is just because of the electronic adjusters?

    Cheers

Are you running Hid's? the chrome innards make no difference to beam pattern.

Best thing to do is park your car on level ground 8ft away from a wall and put the headlight adjuster on 0 in the car and use a size 8 allen key in the white adjuster on the back of the headlight. The level should be no higher than your knee and be level all the way across the beam then kick off up on the left hand side.

Can you see a RHD kick up on the beam pattern? ... lights on infront of a flat vertical wall or garage door, from the driver's seat you should see (in front of each headlight) a horizontal beam line then a kick up to the Left hand side of around 35/45 degrees.

    No, not running HID.

Have changed the bulbs though to OSRAM nightbreakers.

Right ill find an Allen key and try it once the cars back on the road.

When you say you took the silver bit out, I assume you don't mean you took out the reflector?

Ill check then. How do you know if they are upside down? Lol

No not the reflector at the back where the bulbs are, just the cowl bit next to the glass.

Btw you can see what i mean on my sig below as to what ive taken out.

Are the reflectors clipped in to the adjusters?

If you mean "does the light move when you change the dial in the cockpit" then yes mate

I've just checked the bulbs, they only go in one way. And I have no Allen key adjuster, just a twist adjuster which moves the reflectors inside the headlight forward and backwards
