Lowering springs 30mm, is it visible/worth it?

  1. #1
    Hey guys,

I was wondering if the difference between standard and 30mm lowered springs do make some visible difference. A guy I know offers me brand new springs for €10,- (£8,45) which appears to be a very good deal
I'm just thinking, it's quite alot of work for me (never done it before) to fit them, and when I fit them I will lower the rear too.
So, is it worth lowering the car 30mm and does someone has a picture to compare the difference?

    Thanks

Mines at 35mm on the front, it looks functional

I think 30mm looks great. Wouldn't give as much bother with wearing out other components either. Bigger drops will cause all sorts of hassles.

Looks better than standard and is a reasonable height before putting stress on other suspension parts. People that drop them with 60-90mm springs without doing shocks or bushes, annoy me.

    Go 40/40mm imo. (left)

    Cheers guys

40/40mm isn't really possible since I have the opportunity to buy the 30mm for a much cheaper price. Although it looks better, as you said already
I think I'll go for it then, everything's better than this:

They're G&M's, never heard of it tbh, but that's maybe because I haven't done anything with suspension in my whole life
He said all the text is in German, so it should be a German manufactor

How much are you paying for them?

    I can get them for €10,- (£8,45)
The guy hasn't used them because he didn't knew how to fit them, so now he sold his Saxo and wants to sell these too

My saxo is 60mm and its bloody awful, 40mm imo is just right like my nana, I can't get over certain speed bumps in the turbo and living in the countryside with shit roads doesn't help!

A friend just lowered his Corsa 30mm, removes arch gap and still comfy ride. But makes it look that big smarter. Do it at that price, u can't moan even if it's not that low, it's £8 lol
  13. #13
My Saxo is lowered 30mm all round, it's on 16" wheels and it looks okay to me.
  14. #14
Down 35mm here, ideal on these shite roads!
  15. #15
30mm is perfect ride height. I Started out with 50mm apex, this was too low for my taste. Then changed to 35mm apex this is perfect looks just right and handles great.

This is 50mm apex front, approximately 35mm rear

I've just got myself some 30mm front springs, yet to fit them. Remember to move your power steering pump pipe when lowering or it'll rub on (i think) your steering arm, leak power steering fluid and in turn knacker your pump

Aksel - where did you get the 35mm springs from? i'm struggling to find a true 35mm lowering springs for VTR/VTS....there appears to be either Apex 30mm or 50mm.

I bought them on ebay.... They are called Apex 35mm but they say it only lowers around 25mm on vts. But really i belive it to be more like 30mm.

    Product code is: 70-4000

Yeah that would be great mate!

sorry to jump in here - but Aksel i would also be really interested to see a few more photos of your car on level ground etc.. i really cant decide on the best route to take on lowering my VTS, the Apex kits look the way to go but like others have said with -25mm it sort of feels like it would not be worth the effort but yours looks spot-on.

    cheers

Var g, I'm in the same boat!. I called up a few tuners near my area and have kept warning me about lowering the rear torsion beam that the bearings could break (due to age) and if that happens the rear beams is game over and replacement units are like £700!!!

Now mine is a x reg so could this happen to mine? The tuners did say this tends to happen on pegoeuts rather than Saxos....

    My opinion:
Cant se why it should break your axle. The only thing that happens when lowering is that the arm is moved up, just like when you drive throught a hole. But permantly. And then you reset the torsion bar at the new height. If you axle breaks by doing this, then it would be on the way out allready.
But it can be a pain to free up the torsion bar...

As long as you don't disturb the bearings in the arms you should be alright. But if you need to remove the arms, I would replace the bearings.

Aksel any luck with the pics??

    That's a brill height! Perfect!

not low enough in my opinion. Ofcourse if its better than standard though. Even at 60mm I rarely had any trouble
roads round here are pretty bad aswell

this was mine at 35mm front, 40mm rear... far too high

  31. #31
40mm looks great but which springs actually gives a true 40mm?

I def don't want to go any lower than 40mm
  32. #32
If your higher than this its just not cool

It only happens if you lower it the wrong way
    And replacements are 300

So you got told a load of shit
My axle is 120mm down and fine

That's good to hear, you're not free to do mine are you?! Lol

I like the look of 35mm tbh, sits just perfect
  37. #37
Just brought a pair of apex 50mm, only wanted 35mm but these were going cheap.

Just hope the rear suspension can be adjusted easily and not seized etc
