Diesel glow plug help

  1. #1
My diesel is becoming impossible to start cold and I think all the glow plugs are totally dead now. I haven't wanted to change them of fear of them snapping in the head but I'm forced to change them since I can't be doing with 1 minute on a morning to start the car.

What advice can anyone give me to when I change them. Should I change them with the engine hot? Should I soak them in WD40 a bit first. Cheers

Before you change them take the car for a long drive and get the engine really hot, idealy a blast down some dual carriageways or motorway.
Once back home change them whilst its still hot, less risk of them snapping in the head then.

I personally put a rag around the top of each and cover the rag in diesel/ wd40 and leave for a few hours it works its way down the thread and helps loosen them off.

But they can be a twat and if they are going to snap they will snap. when you fit the new ones use some copper slip on the thread will help for removal.

you should be fine mate. I was shitting myself when changing them on my brothers 106d. I sprayed wd40 in them a couple nights before and then when it came to undoing them, just did it really slowly and gently.

Is that £19.99 each or for all 4?

i got all 4 for like £15 from ebay. Cant even remember the brand name lol
All motorfactors around here wanted about £15 each!
