vts ported throttle body (pics)

    well after the long thread last time this was brought up i seem to be the only test dummy and im glad as i finished it off today and its come out really good!

    it DEFINATLY revs morefreely in the lowere rev range and the throttle is a hell of a lot more responsive. the power curve also ssems to be a lot smoother instead of a kick in the arse at 4k.

    spot on, looks the same as mine

    you should do your valve ports, while i had my head off this week i used a flap wheel to take the cast surface off and smooth it out a bit, also had it skimmed and it seems to pull a bit stronger.

    not sure mate. i want some pretty wild cams to be honest. get away from the routine pt50's & 51's. i dont really do a lot of town driving so im not sure. im gonna look deeper into it when iv saved up totalloy. what would you recomend?

    looking good mate, i would have done mine sooner jsut waiting for the dremmil back off a mate but it seems like its taking forever so may have to look at geting another one. will leave u good rep when i can as gota spread some more

    its not just about where you drive your car, if you start to go wilder than the norm (pt51/708s etc) then your going to need to be revving to over 8k. and for that you'll need to go for solid lifters, uprated rods and prob forged pistons, plus they'll have a bit more lift so you will need your oe pistons rebated or again, forged pistons.
    and to get the best out of them you'll need throttle bodies and standalone.
    pt51s and 708s regularaly see 160hp and in a saxo that is pretty fun.

    Richardson vts. yes i did it myself mate and id be willing to do others 4 a price

    tbh thats what im aiming for. i want a deffo 160 bhp. do you rate piper 285's at all? or are they the same?

    if i went piper id just sent mineoff to be re-ground as iv heard good things about their re-grinds. my best mate is running 280bhp at the fly on a toyota glanza turbo running 1.3bar. he's spent thousands i know but he has got a piper re-grind in!

    you will not get anywhere near 160 on a regrind of your standard cam, it will be reground to a 270 profile. but still wont be as good as a 270 blank.
    piper 285s, pt51s, 708s are all pretty much the same.
    tbh though 708s tend to make higher power and a bit higher up the revs.

    its mainly the top lip that restricts flw but bore it out and then take .5mm off the rest of the body and polish

    yeah thanks for the advice, ive done it now, i went into work n took sum tools home, 100000rpm air grinder (oh yes) n sum polishing tools. just took it out for a spin n my god u can tell the difference alrite.

    told you you could tell the difference. now there's backup! it does make i BIG difference! im sure you can make it about a 25% bigger opening.

    i wouldnt bother taking any more out mate. its bang on as it is i think if you took any more out it would be like a bottle neck effect as it still has to go through the actual butterfly opening which cant be made any wider but polish it up by all means.

    Sorry spencer, not been on for a while. the difference is totally noticeable, for me it seems to be more responsive, the car just seems to be able to breathe alot more, if that makes sense.

    Do it mate, it doesnt take too long to do if youre quite handy with a air grinder, altho it cannot be rushed. it costs f**k all and the difference is quality.

    Sorry mate dont know anything about gearboxes.

    Yeah a mini dremell shud do the trick, dont see why it shudnt.
    what bits you using in it, to cut the metal?

    try and avoid using the grinding wheel type, because its a cast alloy, this can clog up the wheel very quickly and all of a sudden explode into tiny little bits, trust me its not pretty, ive seen ppl loose eye balls and shit.

    this sounds like a good DIY mod, is there anything like this that can be done on the vtr silvertop i havnt had a look at mine yet, just wondered if any1 knew? cheer

    iv just ported a vtr one. not really a lip but you can get the port a lot wider.
    ets- just use a stone wheel to gring then a flat wheel to smoothen out then some wet and dry with your hands and some elbow grease to finish off.
