Fast idle after battery problem

  1. #1
I have recently been having battery issues with my car, all was fine on Friday came to start it monday and it was completly dead.

Had a friend jump start me this morning and it sat at aroun 4000rmp idle, what would be causing this? has it been caused by the battery?

I'm thinking maybe the ICV but i'm not sure, it could just be over fueling

your engine is revving up so the alternator runs faster and makes up for the lack of amps from the battery. Get a new one.

Thanks, I havent had this issue before after jump starting & I replaced the battery last August so its not that old.

I will try and get them to exchange it

Obviously get it tested, but I'm quite sure it's that.

Happened to my brother a few times: he bought one that broke down twice within 6 months. Quite often on cars doing short trips during winter: the battery doesn't have time to re-reach full charge and dies quicker.

Do it sooner than later. I tried once to push the battery as long as possible but it eventually died on me and the car was bricked.

Okay cheers mate, I have it on charge now so I will try it after work tonight and see how the idle is then, fingers crossed.

I'm going to take it back to the shop this weekend and hopefully they should replace it considering its less than a year old.

    Thanks

just check the voltage if you have a multimeter, should read 12-14 volts. Good luck with that, though shouldn't be much of a problem... Last but not least keep some jumper cables with you until the weekend just in case.
