Important! : engine light (lambda problem)

  1. #1
Engine light is on my saxo, had it pluggged in and it came up with these codes
    P0171 adaptation mixture control
    P0134 upstream oxygen sensor
I've swapped the front lambda sensor and now have these codes
P0135 02 sensor heater circuit front
    P0134 upstream oxygen sensor
What could it be? Could the sensor I've swapped be broke aswell?
    cheers
  2. #2
Did you clear the codes after replacing the lambda mate?
  3. #3
    Yer but came back on
Got told to clear again then take battery off and take for a drive, so done this and didn't come back on so I'll just see wat happens
  4. #4
Light is back on, anyone any ideas?
  5. #5
When you fitted the lambda sensor was it a new or used one?
  6. #6
Used one but the lad says it was fine, I know I've only got his word on that tho so might be broke aswell
  7. #7
Is your car running rich a bit?
  8. #8
Yer deffo running rich, stinks of petrol at back of exhaust
  9. #9
Map sensor mate i had the same codes as you last year and replaced everything. Replace the map sensor then clean both lambdas with brake cleaner to get rid of the soot and it should run okay.

Cheers mate I'll start sourcing a new map sensor now
  11. #11
changed map and cleared codes light came straight back on
  12. #12
You checked what coads are on now mate? As said you can come along and try a few sensors out if you want untill you find the fault

probably why it's sending the sensors all over the place. Your cat converter / sensors may also be clogged up or damaged, they don't cope well with overfuelling and the overheating problems that come along.

If it stinks of petrol then the fuel going through the engine isn't burnt obviously. You're supposed to keep a ratio of 14 volumes of air for 1 volume of fuel to maintain efficiency. I'd check the air filter and make sure it's flowing properly.

I bet your air filter is black, check theres not a crack in the exhaust manifold & the gasses aren`t being sucked back up.

checked filter not dirty, will check manifold tomorro,
codes still say upstrem lamba, is this the frist or second lamda?
    cheers

it's the top one. And when it fails the car overfuels like I suspected above, goes hand in hand really. Since you ruled out the air filter, I think you only need to worry about that sensor.

I'd do it sooner than later as it could cost you a fair bit of petrol, and potentially damage the cat.
