What actually happens if you get your car re-mapped? and how much am i likely to spend?
Re-mapping?

#2only 1 place can properly remap your standard ecu, chipwizards.
they will alter your cam timing and ignition timing and your fuelling all at different rpm and load sites.
only worth it once you start fitting cam /turbos/supercharges or anything else that your ecu cant alter itself to.
you prob be looking at £450-£500. -
#3there is a place in blackpool called motor sport development there are always in performance ford and fast ford they are really good and will do a live map on a saxo vts for 400
-
#4not being funny here and sorry for hijack but is it illegal?
-
#5Nope!Quote:Originally Posted by Imfromwalesnot being funny here and sorry for hijack but is it illegal?

#6If you dont tell your insurance company about the mods then it could be illegal but the actual practice of remapping is not illegal.
-
#7ok thanks guys!
-
#8Chipwizards are not the only place that can remap a standard ecu properly at all and there power claims are ridiculous.
I wouldnt bother with a remap until you have uprated cams, full exhaust system, enclosed filter and what ever other mods you want as if you add more peformance parts you'll have to have the ecu mapped again to the new mods.
If you have no engine/performance mods there's not much point in having a remap. The cost of remapping is usually £400-500 -
#9dan - who else remaps the standard ecu then? you are the first person i have heard say this.
and how are their power figures ridiculous? -
#10Same question, where remaps the standard ECU and where have you seen Wayne make any power claims?
-
#11are you not getting chipping and mapping mixed up? can they raise the RPM limit?
whats the name and phone number of the place? -
#12if i was to get my vts re-mapped at the moment, with a 4-2-1 manifold, de-cat pipe, super sprint centre section, standard back box, enclosed induction kit, would i gain anything or not? or just pretty much waste my money?
-
#13your would gain but would be a waste of money. youve only done breathing, not anything to the engine. get some cams in there
-
#14i am still waiting for this companies name and number, i wanna give them a call.
-
#15dan - we are still awaiting a reply.........
-
#16i could do with some decent advice on remapping in the middlesbrough area
-
#17chipwizards is the only place to go for standard ecu remap.
NOT a just fitting a chip. -
#18yeah but why would i give that guy £500 plus vat when i could get a dastek standalone and setting up done by gmc doesnt seem to make any sense imo
-
#19he doesnt charge 500 plus vat, its about 450 all in.
dasteks can fail, + they cant raise rev limit. why would you not want him to map your ecu?
plus you dont need to cut into you loom. -
#20Do you mean re-mapping the ecu with no other mods??
Because I know places that will remap the standard ecu round near me. -
#21have you got there name and number?
you sure they map the car on the RR or do they just fit a chip? -
#22ok yeah seems fair enough reason thats what i was quoted on when i rang him think it was something like £475+vat so i was thinking to myself i might as well get a standalone or a piggy back ecu for the same price
-
#23you'll not get a standalone fitted and mapped for that. unless you go megasquirt.
why would you choose piggyback over standard ecu remap? -
#24no i have piper 285 cam waiting to be fitted already got manifold enclosed induction decat full exhaust system and had a eprom chip fitted and programmed just really want to know the best place to get it all set up onces it finished
-
#25dastek wont raise RPM limit which you'll need for the,m cams.
i would suggest chipwizards. -
#26eventually once i know more i would like to be able to play around with the settings myself a few of my mates are into tweaking there ecu and things so would like to go down this path really
-
#27my rpm has already been increased to 7500rpm it even went higher 1 day but shit a brick and had to ease off not taking it past 7000rpm now cant be healthy without the cam installed
-
#28you wold need standalone to mess about yourself.
look into megasquirt if thats what you want to do.

#29thanks pal will take a look at this later

#30Not got there names, but can certainly get it mate.
Ive just heard some silly power figures from having the ecu remapped with no other mods. -
#31I have gained, like many others 160bhp from pt51 cams, manifold, induction and a btb exhaust after a chipwizards remap with an 7850rpm limit. The car has recorded a 0-60 of 6.5 seconds and a quarter of 14.9 in drizzly conditions. It idles perfectly and has returned 35mpg roughly over the time I've had it.
That said the ECU has now failed. Will look into it when it comes back to the UK.
Were I to do it all again I'd fit a standalone ECU and get wayne to map it -

Where? So there is a garage with no name that can doit and people with no names quoting silly power fuigures.
Ok -
#33I havent used them myself, my mate who used to be a member on here used them thats why I dont have there name to hand. There based in a place called stokesley in Middlesbrough.
They do it all on there rolling road, why is it so hard to beleive??????
I meant I've heard stupid power figures from people mentioning chipwizards. -
#34i believe you dan, i always thought wayne was the best at it though.
theres a bit of a mix up now, dan was referring to power claims by chipW being stupid. -
#35chipwazards dont make any claims of power you will get, you get a figure after your car has been mapped. chipwizards is waynes company.
-
#36dan - can you get a name or number as i want to talk to them find out what exactly they can do as its a lot closer to me than chipwizards?
cheers
