Jacking the car up.

The Haynes manual suggests substituting the jack for axle stands and it says to put the axle stands under the jacking point if doing any work.

This is fair enough I'm just wondering how the funk you are supposed to get an axle stand under the jack points when the bloody jack is there, is there some where else I can safely jack it up? I moved down the sill a little but when I started jacking the sill crumbled a little bit and bent... :/

    ive always wondered this too.

Its always a really tight squeeze, i have the jack at an angle and as far down one end of the jacking point sill, then slide in an axle stand right next to it so its still under the jacking point.

Either that or i put the axle stands under the wishbone mounts

I just used the bar that the jack points are on , works just as good as anywhere else IMO

Jack car up on wishbone mounts, slide axle stands under jacking points.
On the rear, jack under rear axle

Surely the point of axle stands is that you put them under the axles?

I'm guessing the name comes from the old'en days, Fred Dibnah probably named them, you know when cars had actual axles, at the rear anyhow.

Anyway, viper, how much do SR20s cost with box?

Thats why i have sill stands
They have a different shaped top to suit seamed sills rather than curved axles

i've always been told its bad to have an axle stand on the actual beam of a saxo... not sure how correct that is but i certainly wouldnt want to risk bending an axle lol

It says to put some wood on the stands to stop it damaging the jack point.

Where are the wish bone mounts? Does the front even have wishbones? Excuse my noobness but I want to start doing my own services and stuff and I have to start somewhere.

Jack up on the jacking points and stands under the wishbone mounts, or the other way round depending on what needs doing. Low profile jack like this if your working on a lowered car and struggle to fit it under the sill or bumper

there are wishbones on the front. Look for the lower arms which connect to the suspension struts. I always use blocks of wood wherever i put axle stands too
