Nebie with a couple of problems, could use some tips

    Afternoon All.

I bought a 2001 reg Saxo around January with 40k miles on it and thought it would be a good deal having previously owned a 106 and loved it, never had any issues with the old peugeot but with the Saxo I think I got a bit screwed over as within a week I had to have the entire exhaust system replaced (Was not impressed...but I digress)

that said its still not without its problems and although its still going, I tend to get a bit of a problem with it having very little power, the main issue being that when I set out on a morning having left it overnight, it will stutter and threaten to stall when changing up, I think its a problem with the fuel filter up as it tends to happen when I push the accelerator a bit.

Could use some advice on what this is likley to be and if my intial hunch is near the mark, if anyuone has had any similar issues that they managed to resolve then Id be really pleased to hear about it, would love to get this car back up to its former glory and keep it going for years to come, as the bodywork and the engine itself are in great condition, just this stuttering and lack of power that needs nipping in the bud really

    Any Ideas appreciated

    Benq

Hi, I'm also a newbie with a similar problem on my '96 1.1, car runs ok if I drive like my dad on a sunday but as I start to get a bit racy the car bogs down almost feels like it's time to pull over then gets going again, usually happens when going through corners or out of roundabouts. Changed the fuel filter no change, any one got any pointers? Oh, Hello everybody

If you needed a new exhaust, I would presume out hasn't been serviced properly. change the oil, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter then see how she goes.

Mine feels boggy and chokey on start up after work, think it's water settling as it goes after a short while.

Also, give it an Italian tune up, thrash it when you can. Girlfriend got a new 1.1 Saxo, needed a service etc, good Italian tune up sorted it right out after the service. Hitting the red line on the motorway slip road all the time, cleans the crap out of the engine!

Hello Benq, did this advice help your problem in any way? I serviced my 1996 1.1 and it's made no difference at all, I'm thinking fuel pump next, have you found anything?

Paul, you say when you go around corners etc, does the fuel level effect it? Less likely on a full tank?

If it's been serviced properly, just start giving it some wellie if the cars new to you, listen for any bad noises but start taking it up towards the red line. should help unclog its arteries. Worked a treat with the girlfriends car!

when its driving does it jolt and judder the car????

my car recently had these problems, when putting foot to floor would starv and jolt and judder violently and random intervals until it was every journey? if your car does this as I found out, after changing fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors and still no change, turned out to be map sensor.
so my advice try that first off, pretty cheap on eurocarparts at mo with 50% off or find a ebay cheapy all be around the £20 ish quid marker. I found that stopped all my problems and car runs fine again now

Aldred, yes I do think when the tank is high it does run better, but not right I've tried fuel cleaners/additives to no effect, I think I may try the map sensor to at least rule it out, thanks for your reply

Sorry about the delay with the reply but the car is parked up to far from my house to get to it as often. Anyhow, I received the new map sensor that was listed as for a "'96-2001 1.1 saxo" mine's a '96, but I cannot fin a sensor like this under the bonnet, does anyone know if the early saxo's were different? Thanks for any help
