Engine hissing.. Cambelt pully?

  1. #1
My engine is making a kind of hissing sound as it runs, i think its coming from around the belt somewhere, maybe one of the pullys or tensioners on the way out?

Just to make it easier, i got you all a video..

Hard to tell from vid but could be tensioner or water pump, more likely the tensioner, could even be the alt bearings or something

It's tensioner ,if you still hear metaly noise after replacing tensioner than that's bearings iside A/C compressor ,moist and water ruin them both .

I believe you put washing up liquid on a dry belt, if the squeaking/noise stops you need a new belt.

Or use a candle and rub it against the belt as the engine is running. If it stops, it's the belt

When you rev the car, the sound speeds up with the revs of the car

Tensioner mate ,a/c bearings do that only on idile and get louder when ac is on must be tensioner ,my sax sounded like i was draging 200 cans behinde me
P.s.@Ross: it's better to use dry new soap ,oldschool mechanincs did that ,mine said that some spray i used (somthing to greese my belt when it squeeked ,like wd40 but for rubber) might been one of reasons why it died

yeah I think wax or soap is a good solution! My father told me that about 30 years ago so the "trick" has been around a while lol

My mechanic is oldschool racing mechanic and knows all the tricks (when my tensioner died ) he took like 50cm screwdriver and lisend trough it for vibrations on difrent engine parts like a doctor with stetoscope @Smith ,spray water over the whole thing if its tensioner it will stop making noises for a sec and as it drys off it will start again
