This is my first post in this forum so,
Hi Everyone!!
Gunna start this story at the beginning.. here goes!
My house mate just bought a T Reg saxo and asked me to come along and have a look at it with her as im a mechanic.
The car was £430 with headgasket just done with head skim, new cambelt and water pump, full service and 12 month MOT.
All kinda seemed to good to be true but when we went to view it the car seemed very tidy, checked the engine bay and could see new oil and air filter so all seemed to check out. Took it out for a test drive and it didnt miss a beat, took it for a long test drive so we could see it running hot. and yea, seemed like a great car.
we went in and talked about the deposit and whatnot, the guy then offered us a lift to the cashpoint in the saxo and it wouldnt start. after checking the car over quickly it had no spark so we agreed we would give him half the deposit and we would have it providing he changed the coilpack to sort the problem.
Went back to pick up the car and the coilpack had been changed, and the car was running perfectly and had a fresh MOT.
The car then ran great for about a week, no missing, no problem starting hot or cold, however yesterday morning the car just refused to start. I took a look when i got home from work and the car eventually started but was missing like a pig.
After looking at the car today i found cylinder 4 had bugger all compression and the other 3 where on about 105, so not great - Would explain the problems... thinking the guy put oil in the bores to seal the rings for sale.
i also noticed a horrendous oil leak from the rear main, so it's turning into a fair bit of work, and potentially a new engine if it's Rings. I have been offered a 30,000 mile 106 engine for £50 which would save me pissing about with the existing engine, and be cheaper than the parts alone.
So my question is this!.... take a breath...
is the block and head the same on a multi point injection as on a single point?
from the looks of things i can just swap the manifolds over, but didnt want to end up with 2 engines i cant use sat on my drive.
So yea... sorry for the essay, just thought i'd set the scene
Cheers in advance.
Rich.
