non saxo corsa c idling problem

a friend of mine has a year 2000 corsa c, one with the crappy 3 cylinder 1 litre engines, i know they arent the smoothest of engines in the first place but she bought it round to me before and it was runnign quite rough, so i cleaned all the plugs and put the back, it made it a bit better so now it revs up fine but it just idles too lumpy..any thoughts?

My mates idles lumpy as well its just the nature of the engine in most cases. That said though when was the timing chain last done?

Has it got ht leads or a coil pack(overhead type)?

yeah try all the usual things such as plugs and fuel filter etc, clean the throttle body out as well. Is it very "tappy" on idle?

tried plugs, cleaned air filter, did give the throttle body a quick wipe out too. think fuel filter next, it did get a bit better so i sent her home to see if it clears itself at all.

nope didnt tap, just lumpy and the engine was shaking a bit because of this.
do you know of any common faults with these? never really done anything with corsa's before :/

In my experience its timing chains and their tensioners, oil starvation issues up top, snapped cam shafts.
If its not tapping like mad then i'd say its had a reasonably easy life or is at least well looked after so will more than likely be an electrical or sensor issue
