So, car got serviced a couple of weeks ago. Oil change, filters yada ya... the usual stuff.

But... when i start the car and am driving for about 5 mins the oil light comes on and then off.. perhaps a couple of times? and the needle goes up a little bit and then down? needle never goes too high or anything... then it settles down, sits at the right temp and the light stays off. think i can smell a slight burning smell too? other than that the car is running sweet as anything..

hmmm sounds to me that it is an earthing issue under the bonnet, as i had similar symtoms not with oil but the dials playing up and engine stalling itself. First thing is locate all possible earth wires and ensire the connectors have not rusted or worn away and that they ahve good contact. If that fixes, great, if not then it could be a sensor that detects oil levels and temps (guys on here will confirm if their are sensors for the oil), may have been knocked by the mechanic when doing an oil change. Cant imagine this being a major problem. Hope this helps

Is it the oil warning light or the water temperature light?
As the R doesn't have oil temp!

Could be an airlock in the cooling system??!

Iirc theres 2 sensors for the oil... One in the block is pressure the other is level... Have a wiggle on the connectors... Also check the oil level... There could be many things happen but by the sounds of it theyve put a too thiner oil in and the pressure switch is flicking on and off because the pressure isnt there to start with...

ah well, whatever temp light it is lol. must be the waater one. it comes on then goes off... need to get it looked at anyhow.

i have a pressure gauge and it's normal. the way it always has been :/ level is fine!

If its the water temp could just be an air leak in the coolant but if its the oil light i would say it to be a electrical fault, from a sensor or wire broken when getting serviced, these cars are terrible for dodgy sensors, i have replaced nearly all the sensors on my VTR lol
