Exhaust fell off...

    Evening all

Was driving yesterday evening when I started to hear the exhaust note getting a bit louder, sounded as if it had a hole. Got louder and louder over a period of around 5-10 minutes before I stopped to get out and check the problem. Basically the backbox had completely detached itself from the main pipe. Now forgive me I know bugger all about exhaust systems, so I'm not quite sure what I'm going to need to get this fixed. I'm not sure whether the backbox is still serviceable or not, looks like it could be the link pipe thats buggered?

The pipe seems to be fairly intact so I presume this won't need replacing?

    Any help appreciated

    Cheers

It looks like you need a new centre pipe, seeing as the clamp is still attached to the backbox.

I would say just a new clamp even refit it. Wire brush the joins to get any shite of job a gooden.

From those pictures it looks like you need a new clamp. But be prepared for a new centre section, as its quite difficult to tell.

Just take it to your local tyre/exhaust place. They should fix it for about £20. Only needs a new clamp.

Same thing happened to me, but mine still had some centre pipe on the backbox. Intermediate pipe and box later.

    New clamp...

If you wanted you could get another centre section but i would clean that rust off first then go from there

Funny enough the same thing happened to me when I had my Saxo, gave me good excuse to just buy a full system.

Thanks everyone. On closer inspection the clamp is completely f*cked, silencer looks intact just trying to work out whether theres any of the centre section still attached. I like to try and sort this sort of stuff myself before taking it to a garage

Right, went to have another look and this time took the sheared clamp off. I don't know how the silencer and the centre pipe fit together so I'm not sure whether there's still part of the centre pipe attached to the silencer here? I'm tempted to say there is as it looks like one bit goes over the other but tbh I don't know.

No, that is normal. that's how it's meant to be.

The Centre pipe is bell mouth, that part of the back box sits in the bell mouth.

The clamp goes over both parts where it joints.
