Running problem

  1. #1
Brought the car home today and noticed that between 2 and 3k rpm, if i try and floor it, the car will splutter and missfire.
If i gently apply the throttle, it will be fine and after 3.5k rpm, theres no spluttering at all.

Its the same up hill, i have to rev the tits off it to try and make it up even a small slope.

The car will also die during driving if i dip the clutch for too long.

    Any ideas?

Ive bought a new icv and map sensor. All wires are going to where they shoild be.

The engine is a 1.6 xsi with rallye inlet. Idles at 1k and revs fine and freelywhen stationary.

    Dear Rik1254,
May be coolant temperature sensor for the E.C.U or crank sensor, both of which need to be performing correctly for the engine to run properly.
All the engine sensors have a min and a max value that they have to stick to, as set by the E.C.U. they can all appear visually ok, they just suffer from internal faults that can upset the running of the engine.
    I hope this helps,
    Vince,

Is there any way I can test these parts? Say with a multimeter or something?

    no, you need to replace.

note i have the same problem, but with a 106 gti.

upon inspection i noticed my lambda sensor wasn't connected, after looking more closely i have the wrong lambda for my plug (1.1 - 1.6 16v conversion) so i dare say your lambda sensor may have gone. as i know for a fact my lambda wasn't even connected and it idles ok when cold, but soon as its warm and i hit the power it splutters all over the place unless i'm gentle. also stalls when at lights/round abouts.

i have a spare lambda which is the correct plug, but i haven't had the chance to swap them over - ill report back if it sorts the issue.
