New MOT test regs

Not read up fully about each new testing regulation that got brought in this year, but did see the airbag one.
So if the car had airbags fitted as standard equipment, they must remain fitted and operational in order to pass the test?
What about you fellow stripped out saxo guys with buckets (no seat plugs) and aftermarket steering wheels etc?

a friend of mine had his passed, and this garage is strict, litterally. if its not there to test, ie no air bag, no light and no connection, but some saxos have no airbag as standard so it can be passed.

if all dial flashing lights come on there shouldnt be a problem to extent.

If the air bag has been removed or the seats have been changed you must remove all airbag related itemsand not have the light illuminated on the dashboard. Basically it must all be there or not at all.

    Above is correct.

Only issue is if you put a banging max power style steering wheel on without doing anything else.

Ah ok, so its remove the lot inc airbag Ecu and all wiring etc.

Whilst still on the same subject, abs, if standard and removed is this now a problem with new regs? Or likewise with the airbags, just requires removing the entirety?

    Cheers

Just remove it all and you'll be fine

If the lot is removed, airbag ecu and wiring, does the dash light go out? Or does that need to be removed too.

    Cheers

If the airbag ecu is unplugged/removed the dash light does not come on at all.

well not wanting to argue but, mine passed a month ago with airbag resistors in the wiring as I haven't removed airbag box or wiring its all still hooked up but after market steering wheel on.
they are fairly strict as they just failed mrs clio on air freshener in window

And so would this be acceptable to pass the newer regs for mot?

Bloke who past mine said they can specify at the test centre the usage of the car if its for motorsport it doesn't need to have airbags and can have buckets and harness. But he could have been talking out his arse.

    That is true.

Some classes of race car require the vehicle to be fully UK road legal.

you're allowed harnesses (not supposed to in a road car).
you're allowed bucket seats which are fixed providing you have no back seats.
you can remove all safety equipment (airbags, ABS etc)

You can also link up a very simple timer relay to the warning light so the airbag light will turn on when the car is started but then, as normal, will switch off after a second or two, we have done this at our garage to many vehicles that had the airbag light on recently, sent them off for MOT and no problems at all!

    That's a great idea!

Until someone crashes, and dies due to an airbag not inflating, then who's head does it fall on huh?

You should remove ALL the airbag system if the car has a fault, or have it repaired.
