killing driveshafts

  1. #1
since going 16v and the front end on my car is sitting even lower, the drive shafts are at such an angle its munching threw them for fun!
its completley ripped apart 4 driveshafts now in the past few months, thing is though ive only replaced them with 2nd hand ones so i dont know if its down to them or not!? , but i bought two new ones today and gonna fit them tomorrow hoping they will last abit longer

the car never gets tough starts etc

now, is there any way of combacting this problem?

or only real solution is to go higher/raise the engine/gearbox up which will obviously have less of an angle on the shafts

What gearbox are you using? And what shafts? (Ie, vts box and shafts etc)
  3. #3
You answerd your own question, the car is to low.
  4. #4
Did you get the gearbox back on?

Car's clearly too low, put extra strain on a shaft and it's a matter of when will it break, not if. You've got a choice of raising it or face changing parts on a regular basis.

Then how do the air boys manage?

LSO for example, he has two damn low cars and he doesn't complain about chewing through shafts (no pun intended) but then maybe he just doesn't air his problem.

I would ask LSO what he does tbh.

I am gonna send him an inbox, but I mean when. I had the 1.4 lump in I had no issues with them, only since going 16v, and it must only sit an extra few mm down on front with the extra weight of it

But as said above I know other people have cars just as low or even lower and they manage

Depends on car and road if a challenge is there.

A Evo pulled up behind me (evil looking in black coming up behind ) i just dropped the Saxo's kegs and let the Evo do its dirty work i'll not try out with those motors as its inevitable i'll get raped.

I havent really had any problems with driveshafts. The only problem i get are the inner cv boots which constantly rip. The current inner cv rubbers on the static saxo are universal ones which are longer so dont stretch as much. They lasted longer but have ripped eventually, as when you get at too much of an angle with the driveshafts they start to rub on the gearbox itself lol

Ive given up replacing inner cv boots and its been fine for a while now.

ah right i see! fair enough
im gonna put it down then to shitty old drive shafts! shall see how long these last though!
but now as the inside of my tyres have worn down quite alot the shafts have started rubbing on the chassis haha but new tyres are being put on tomorrow

    need deeper pockets!

you are using the right shafts for the right bearings? tapered/non tapered?
