alternator

   Hi, i have a W reg saxo 1.4vtr............vtr on logbook.
   when it starts there a whining from the alternator,
   i turn off the engine and take the key out and it still whines slightly.
   itll stop if i start the car and high rev it for a few seconds itll smoke abit and smell then stops whining.
   any ideas whats up with it?

   1st thing is to check you haven`t overtensioned the drivebelt.
