#2Find the leak to begin with. You'll find cristals where the coolant leaks, blue or red depending what you put in there.
If you can't find, just place some newspapers under the engine, start it and you'll see where it is. Probably a dead radiator but you never know until you do.
The temp gauge will sit higher because of a combination of less cooling (obviously) + bubbles in the system.1 user thanked this post: -

#4Shove some radweld in it.
then fill it back up.
go from there, if it's a small leak it'll permanently be fixed.
bleed the system
properly.
-
#5Don't let it go on or you risk popping your head gasket. Small fix now or a big fix later.
-
#6Think my head gasket on way out got like oily shit in raditor!! Arggghhhhh
-
#7Oh dear sounds like the headgasket then
-
#8anyone know how much a headgasket goes for?
-
#9Headgasket seal is about 16-20 quid at worst, not much to worry about, then again easy to to change. Only don't overcrank the screws back in + needs bedding time when you drive it, about 200 miles.
-
#10someone told me head gaskets like 400 quid! haha
-
#11Well don't fall for that one. 400 quid for a 20 quid gasket seal, dear me.

#13must be charging hell of a Labour for £400 and a gasket and some head bolts lol.
Only take a garage about 3 hours. I'm quite sure it could be done faster though. -
#14Usually about 3-4 labour, plus gasket fluids and getting the head skimmed. Just depends on how much the charge for labour.
-
#15Headgasket on a 1.1 is a hour & a half job if the yot everything you need and head skimmed!
-
#16its a 1.4 but got a mate looking at it Monday he said about 60 quid to do it all n drain radiator through etc.
-
#17Not good fella,I had this on my punto a few years back and just sold it as spares
-
#18I will not lose faith!!

#19Are you getting hot air out of the blowers at all or does it blow cold at all times even when the temp gauge is high?
-
#20Also check the dipstick to see if there is any signs of emulsification.
If you've been making short journeys that can sometimes cause some emulsification under the oil cap because of condensation.....
But it does sound like HG failure. -

oil cap and dipstick looks fine! but radiator always empty! doing my nut in! -
#22find the leak, replace broken part.
-
#24Pretty sure you'll have to replace the whole car at some point.
