Been discussing reasons why my cat is rattling with a work mate and he reckons it needs replacing, is this so? Thanks.

Well if its rattling yes. No other option.

Could be the heat shield rattling against the exhaust. Worth checking just in case.

I've been through a cat converter sounding like a bag of spanners before, sounds like the ceramic filter is shot. I'm afraid that it is a case of get a new one, just don't get a cheap MOT one or you'll need another one next year.

Ok thanks mate, think I'm gunna use it as an excuse to get an upgrade, so I'll source out a good one and treat myself.

I have a similar issue but mine doesn't rattle,it vibrates at around 3.5 rpm, could be some loose bolt?
