This may sound really stupid but what is the best way of cleaning an engine bay?
My bay is as dirty as a boil on a pornstars arse!
It wouldn't be wise to get a jet wash on it? because of all the wiring an such?
really want to clean it up so i can see better which needs a new lick of paint etc..
Any advice would be muchly appreciated

Engine degreasant called gunk works well.

Thanks guys, so literally just get in there then!
Do i keep water away from the bay? this is my first car so dont know much and dont want to do something really stupid rendering the car dead or anything.
So is it a case of an old rag caked in Gunk to wipe on, then another clean rag to wipe? please be as specific as possible even if it does belittle me lol

Nobody will belittle you lol. Everyone starts somewhere.

Personally with electrics and water i dont go there but many people do it it. They just mask all the electrical bits up. I know engines do get wet but not completly.

Well i guess i just wanted to play it safe rather than ruin my newly found baby lol.
    Found this guide though-http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=217823
Looks great and the end result looks awesome, bit sceptical when my bay currently looks like this
But ill give it go, then after that ill do some painting
Well im here is might aswell ask this haha
Do i use high temp paint when painting the rocker cover?

Just start in one area first, get that fully cleaned and move to another section. Do it in bits so you dont sicken yourself.

If that was my bay i would be looking to replace the rocker cover as it's beyond it. Source a OE air box and pipes.

Prickle i am starting to think of just replacing the rocker cover, as for the air box i don't want an OE one i still a performance one but not this one lol
    I want one like this maybe-http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-SAXO-VTR-VTS-CARBON-AIR-FILTER-INTAKE-KIT-PERFORMANCE-INDUCTION-KIT-/320925575839?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM& fits=Cars+Year%3A1999|Car+Make%3ACitroen|Model%3AS axo&hash=item4ab8a7aa9f
But one that will fit an 8v

    Well thats up to you

That current filter wont be doing much if anything atm other then noise (if thats what you're after)

The search for a new rocker cover continues lol, only 2 breaker yards within my reach and none have one suitable!
  12. #12
I want know about noise since my down pipe has cracked so thats pretty noisy atm lol.
Other than your suggest OE box what performance one would be suitable?

Yes mate & get plenty of old rags plus old toothbrushes(for working into hard to reach areas)

Best performance will fine from a performance panel filter in the standard airbox. Not as noisy (induction "roar") as a cone filter so down to personal preference.

Once you're in the wanted / for sale sections on the forum you'll be inundated with rocker covers lol. Easy to come by

    Have you tried eBay?
