Squeaky noise clutch pedal (w/ Video)

  1. #1
Hello there,i get a squeaky noise when the clutch pedal is pressed and it only occurs in this occasion, could it be a worn gear linkage, clutch cable that needs lubrification? what would you recommend me to check?

Other than this the clutch works just fine.

I also may add that when the engine is hot or when i turn it on in the morning it doesn't make any noises or if it does you can hardly hear it.

You can hear the noise in this video:

    Many thanks.

Mine squeaks when I put my foot on the clutch, I need a new cable to sort it out. Sounds like yours is the same.

As above new clutch is needed

He meant the clutch cable needs replacing though?

same issue here, adjusting the cable did nothing but move the biting point. squel or chatter is still there dont want to get new clutch if there is an easier solution

    Change the cable

Even though i really hope it's just the cable i don't want to waste money on a new one just to discover the old one is fine,i suppose the only way to check if it is in good condition is to remove it right?

Cable can squeak, another source for squeaking and very commonly it's the nylon bushes that the release bearing fork sits in.

There's nothing you can do about that, except spray it with WD 40 and hope it's not the bottom bush making the squeak

I already sprayed some WD40 on the fork bearing that enters in the gearbox from the top but did not change anything.

I think, you'll have to change the cable or just live with it then

My old 405 was the same, my GTI cable squeaks as well.

Nah, squeaking is it just rubbing the sleeve.

clutch cables snap right at the pedal 9 times outta 10.

Is it squeaking when the engine is off and you press/depress?

Wild guess but could be the fitting kit between the cat converter and midpipe. I had it a couple of times before on different cars, I would get a squeak each time I pressed/depressed the clutch. The engine moves about under load and would stress the fitting kit, hence a squeak. Solved that with WD40 and adjusting the nuts on the springs.

I don't know if it squeaks when engine is off,i'm quite sure it doesn't but i'll have to try again to confirm that.

My cat squeaks too sometimes but i didn't think it could cause that clutch pedal noise,i'll have a look and spray some WD40 on the spring bolts, thanks for the help.

Being th noob in this thread, where is the fork bearing ? Is it. Easily visible and accessible as I too have lubed the pedal with no luck ...

No, gearbox off to get the fork. the release bearing sits in the fork.

    Update: The noise has disappeared.

I just sprayed some WD40 on the clutch cable under the airbox and pedal and on the fork that enters in the gearbox from the top,i'm surprised it was such an easy fix so i will keep an eye on it for the next weeks.

I'll do this on mine, if it stops the squeak then I'll be happy.
