What am I Doing Wrong?

I've just replaced the cam belt and tensioner on my 1.1 8V 2003, Saxo. On start up there is a rubbing noise as if the belt is hitting the cover. I'm convinced I have not fitted the tensioner correctly because when I released the pin that holds back the tensioning spring the pointer moved to the end stop rather than being restrained by the belt. Unfortunately I did not take enough notice of how the old tensioner was fitted. The little forked prong on the spring device is located on a casting webbing on the block at about 6 o'clock when viewed from the off side. Should the prong be located somewhere else please?

If its a gates kit. Your should have a bit of paper giving you that info.
Saying that assuming all 8v engines are the same my 2001 1.4 was a manual tensioner.

It's not a Gates kit. I bought the tensioner seperately from GSF. It has no instructions. The manufacturer is Ruville. Their website does not give any info.
