perished rocker cover gasket causing mayo?

  1. #1
I picked up a 1.1 the other other day and checking it over i noticed the rocker cover gasket is perished really bad, cracks, splits and tears. Would this cause serious condensation as it has somewhere to draw in moisture?

The car has been off the road for 3months and guessing the gasket has been bad for some time, over time could it cause a build up of condensation?

At first i thought headgasket due to the amount of mayo like substance under the oil filler cap and the rocker cover but theres no other signs like white smoke, over heating or using coolent, oil in the coolent or mayo on the dipstick.

Any help would be great before i decide to repair or scrap it.

    Thanks

I had mayo under my cap when doing my rocker gasket but no signs of mayo over the rockers and oil looked clean (as clean as it could be)

Could possibly be that it is drawing moisture in but could also be hgf. As you've said there isn't signs of mayo elsewhere so probably just the perished gasket.

Not hard to do a head gasket on a saxo anyways lol.

if the car's been left there for months, you will get some mayo as the moisture left inside will react with the oil.

Now if the rocker cover seal is fucked as described, the car will need a serious service, read headgasket and then some. Not the hardest job being a saxo but clearly needs a good service beyond the rocker cover seal. I would expect that, cam belt, replace all fluids, the tyres may be out of shape, rusty brakes and rusty lines, rusty arches, list goes on.

Obviously I can't see it from here, but would prepare a barge pole just in case I wouldn't want to touch it.
