battery light flickers. Alternator replaced

  1. #1
basically my friend has a 1.1. went through all the symptons that the alternator died. She braught a new alternator but thr pulley snapped, under warranty so another one came.

fitted that, cleaned all the terminals, the battery light still flickers.

Checked the battery and it was unservicble.

From my furio i had a working battery and alternator so i fitted that, the same problem is there battery light flickers and not charging battery.

The car runs fine apart from randon misfires but its pain as it wont hold charge and needs jumping every 3-4 starts.

i think the voltmeter red 12.1V on the alternator. but i no my alternator and the brandnew one works.

    suggestions?

test the battery and check all the earths, could be just a loose one somewhere.

Did you change the alternator belt as well?

Didn't change the belt as she said it was replaced when original new alternator was replaced. Battery I gave her was fine as I've had it in my vts past 3 months I put an old half rods one back in mine

Could also be an exposed wire that arcs when the car vibrates, I've had this issue and had to trace the wires and check for any breaks or exposed wires. Or as suggested above could be a loose or poor earth.

Check the plug connections at the alternator & all earths.

symptoms suggest either a knackered alternator plug or a break in the wiring.
