first time engine start

    Chaps,
    My vts has not moved in 9 months and has been treated to a pretty substantial overhaul, including a jp4 engine.

    Now its almost all bsck together I was wondering if anyone had any tips to help with starting or any common rookie mistakes to avoid when attempting to start for the first time?

    put oil in it

    Crack the engine without the coilpacks so circulate the oil ?

    Did you just drop the jp4 in there? How long has that not ran for?

    Did you replace the belts, water pump etc...

    Check to make sure it turns over freely, by hand before trying

    Yeh sorry I'm typing on my phone so didn't put the level of detail I wanted to! All belts and ancilliaries changed, internals left alone, block not ran in a year almost, although i have cranked it by hand, I was thinking along the lines of what martnos has mentioned above,

    You could do a compresion test on the cyclinders

    if it turns over freely (by hand), all fluids are topped up and all bolts torqued up correctly i don't see any problem in starting it up tbh. Although let the fuel pump prime for a few seconds until you here the relay cut-off before you crank it over. This will make sure you have the right fuel pressure in the fuel rail.
