Brake upgrade

I've been through loads of threads trying to get a answer without any luck soon just going to post this.

If I upgrade my brakes to 263mm, I'm going to upgrade the Master Cylinder. Problem is which one do I use for a VTR (obviously non ABS) as I've been through the scrap yard today and only seen 2 port ones from a 406 and I need 4 port.

Which one should I look for?

Isn't it 266mm ? And I only thought you needed the MC if you went above 266mm

    Yeah sorry 266mm

With the slightly larger calipers will I not get more pedal travel or would it roughly be the same?

Yet again I don't want to upgrade it if I don't need to, I don't want to sneeze on the brake pedal and put myself through the windscreen.

Get better pads and fluid IMO

    Dot 5.1?

I was going to go the brembo calipers route but I've been advised to keep std and change pads and fluid....

A friend of mine who drives in the mg cup runs std discs on his mg,all they change is pads and fluid and he's never had any issues......he's currently lying 2nd so I think I'll listen to him.

I might have a set of brembo calipers for sale soon unless I change my mind.

I hear what your saying, I've got a set of new brembo discs and bosh pads that I was going to stick on the front as I think the ones which came with the car are just cheap and nasty. However, I'm not sure the new ones I have would be any better.

    Any opinions?

Anyone think better fluid and these new discs pads will make a difference.

How much were the pads ? My 106 pads were £115 and I only ran 266mm discs but the braking performance ( also with Dot 5.1 ) was unreal. People often over look the 266 upgrade and think bigger is needed, when it's not. Unless you run a charged unit,.

Think I paid £28 for them but I'm sure there was a bit discount as well. They could be better than what's on but I think it'll only be slight.

Think I'll go for the 266mm discs and calipers just for the extra stopping power as the brakes are crap at the minute. I don't have much confidence in them if I'd have to stop suddenly.

I'm guessing there is no clearance issues with the 266mm set up?

The thread I read says ill need spacers to clear but it shouldn't be a problem.
